Into The Wilderness

This documentary showcases the work that Vancouver Island University is doing with its Wilderness Therapy program. They help young people with addiction and mental health challenges, to develop a better relationship with the natural world (through kayaking, surfing, etc).

Our approach was to immerse the viewer in the sights and sounds of the BC wilderness. To allow them to get a glimpse of those surroundings, while hearing first hand accounts about the power of nature, from those in the program. We wanted to allow the visuals to push the narrative. The interviews were used as voice overs, instead of utilizing the typical “talking head” type of set-up. This was done to avoid any disconnect in the nature message.
